विविध रोगांपैकी महाराष्ट्रात ऊस पिकावर चाबूक काणी किंवा काजळी हा रोग सर्वत्र आढळतो. राज्यात लागवडीखाली असणाऱ्या सर्वच जाती या रोगास कमी-अधिक प्रमाणात बळी पडतात. पीकवाढीच्या सर्व अवस्थेत या रोगाचा प्रादुर्भाव होतो. लागवड पिकापेक्षा खोडवा पिकात काणी रोगाचे प्रमाण जास्त आढळते, कारण लागवड पिकातील रोगग्रस्त बेटे काढली जात नाहीत.
Among the various diseases, the disease of whipped earworm or soot is found everywhere on sugarcane crop in Maharashtra. All the species under cultivation in the state are more or less susceptible to this disease. The disease spreads throughout all stages of crop growth. The incidence of kani disease is higher in the khodwa crop than in the cultivated crop, because the diseased sugarcane in the cultivated crop are not removed.
